        • The museum was created on the initiative of Professor Ivan Tsvetaev, the father of Marina Tsvetaeva.
        • The main sponsor of the construction was the industrialist Yuri Nechaev-Maltsov.
        • The building, in the form of an ancient temple, was designed by Roman Klein, with Ivan Rerberg as chief engineer.
        • The museum opened on 31 May 1912 in the presence of Nicholas II as the Alexander III Museum of Fine Arts; it has borne Pushkin's name since 1937.
        • It was conceived as a teaching museum of plaster casts: under Tsvetaev, about two thousand copies were made to his order.
        • The Egyptian collection was bought in 1909–1911 from the orientalist Vladimir Golenishchev.
        • According to legend, the first visitor to the still-closed museum was the stoker Alexei, who worked for Tsvetaev.
        • In 1981 the Moscow – Paris exhibition was held here, with works by Kandinsky, Malevich and Tatlin.

        • The gallery opened in 2006 in a wing of the late 18th-century Golitsyn estate.
        • The core of the collection comes from the merchants Sergei Shchukin and Ivan Morozov, who bought the Impressionists before they were recognised.
        • In 1923 the collections were combined into the Museum of New Western Art, with about 500 paintings.
        • In 1948 this museum was closed in the campaign against formalism, and its paintings were divided between the Pushkin Museum and the Hermitage.
        • It holds Claude Monet's Luncheon on the Grass and two of his Rouen Cathedrals.
        • In the late 19th century the wing was rented out as housing and called the Princes' Court.

        • The idea of a cathedral-monument to the victory over Napoleon was put forward in December 1812 by General Pyotr Kikin.
        • The first cathedral was laid down in 1817 on the Sparrow Hills to a design by Karl Witberg, but construction was halted and Witberg was exiled to Vyatka.
        • The cathedral on Volkhonka was built to Konstantin Thon's design until 1860, and consecrated only in 1883 under Alexander III.
        • The names of officers killed in the war of 1812 and the foreign campaigns are inscribed on the cathedral's walls.
        • On 5 December 1931 the cathedral was blown up to make way for the Palace of Soviets, which was never built; the Moskva swimming pool was made on the site instead.
        • The current building was recreated in 1994–1999 on the old plinth, but from different materials.
