        • The collection dates back to 1716, when bones of Ice Age animals began arriving at St Petersburg's Kunstkamera.
        • The Moscow museum opened in 1937, and since 1966 it has borne the name of the paleontologist Yuri Orlov.
        • The current Neo-Brutalist building was designed by Yuri Platonov's team; the museum opened in it in 1987.
        • The inner surface of the eight-metre tower is covered by a 500 m² ceramic panel, The Tree of Life, by Alexander Belashov.
        • The mammoth skeleton in the entrance hall was found in 1842 on the Gydan Peninsula.
        • The North Dvina Gallery has seven complete skeletons of pareiasaurs, found by Vladimir Amalitsky in the late 19th century.
        • The only living exhibit is a cyanobacterial mat from a lake in the Altai region.

        • In 1629 Maxim Streshnev, a cousin of Tsarina Evdokia Lukyanovna, bought Uzkoye and set up an estate here.
        • Since 1922 the estate has housed a sanatorium for scientists, and since 1937 a sanatorium of the Academy of Sciences.
        • Lev Landau loved skiing here, and Andrey Kolmogorov loved swimming in the estate's ponds.
        • The large 1770s greenhouses are one of the earliest surviving greenhouse complexes in Moscow and the Moscow region.
        • The 1770s stables with a tower and an arch for carriages are a rare example of "memorial-triumphal" estate architecture.
        • In 1945 the walls of the main house were decorated with trophy paintings by European masters of the 17th–19th centuries.
        • In 2020 a memorial room of Boris Pasternak was opened at the sanatorium.

        • The church was commissioned by the boyar Tikhon Streshnev; all five domes are the same height and the plan is four-lobed — there is nothing else like it in Russian architecture.
        • The bell tower is the western drum above the entrance, and its dome works as a sound resonator.
        • The architect is often said to be Osip Startsev, but documents do not confirm this: the real architect is unknown.
        • According to legend, Napoleon watched his army retreat in 1812 from the church's belfry.
        • Closed in 1930, the church served as a book depository, including trophy libraries brought from Germany.
        • The onion domes appeared only in the 1970s restoration; the earlier late-18th-century domes were elongated upward.
        • The church was consecrated again at Easter, on 22 April 1992, after the books were moved out.

        • The village of Yasinovskoye is first mentioned in the will of Ivan Kalita from 1336–1339: the prince bequeathed it to his youngest son Andrey.
        • After his wedding to Evdokia Lopukhina, Peter I granted Yasenevo to her father Fyodor Lopukhin.
        • In 1718 Avraam Lopukhin was executed in the case of Tsarevich Alexei, and Yasenevo passed to the treasury.
        • The present main house and wings go back to the 1730s — they were built to a design by the architect Ivan Michurin.
        • On 25 August 1775 Catherine II and Field Marshal Pyotr Rumyantsev visited the estate.
        • In 1800 Paul I bought Yasenevo and immediately gave it to his favorite Anna Lopukhina.
        • In the Church of Saints Peter and Paul in 1822 Nikolay Tolstoy and Maria Volkonskaya — the future parents of Leo Tolstoy — were married.
        • In the 1970s restoration the third floor of the main house was not restored, and it took on a look it never had.
