Church of Zosima and Savvatiy and Golyanovo Pond

      ⏱ 1 h🚶 1.3 km🍽 1📍 3 stops
      🐢 A little — under 3 km

The 1842 church of the former village of Golyanovo, coffee to go and a loop along the pond's embankment on the edge of Losiny Ostrov — a quiet hour away from the city bustle.

👶 With kids🏛 History and architecture🌳 Parks and nature🏘 Off the centre⏱ An hour or so
      👶 under 3, 3–6, 7–12 years · ✓ stroller-friendly

The pond embankments are paved; the paths of Losiny Ostrov are packed earth — muddy after rain, you need an all-terrain stroller. There is no lift at Shchyolkovskaya — better to take a bus to the start. To Sirenevy Sad, take a bus.

        • The first wooden church in Golyanovo was built in the 1660s, when the village was the estate of Tsar Alexey Mikhailovich.
        • The present Empire-style church was built by the Trubetskoy landowners; a spring flowed where the "Life-Giving Spring" altar now stands.
        • In 1889 the building was rebuilt to a design by the architect V. F. Baranov.
        • In the 1930s a pasta factory was set up in the church, and the bell tower, without its dome, was used as a factory chimney.
        • Patriarch Alexy II performed the great consecration of the restored church on 21 August 1999.
        • The icon painter Nikolay Gusev began painting the dome and the main cube in the manner of 17th-century frescoes.

        • As late as the 1960s this was a marshy floodplain of the Sosenka river.
        • In the early 1980s the Sosenka was piped underground, and a pond with concrete banks was dug in place of the marsh.
        • The pond covers 8.6 hectares, has an average depth of 2 m and a volume of about 160,000 m³.
