🏛 The "Lying Skyscraper" (NICEVT building)
        Варшавское ш., 125
The building of the Scientific Center of Electronic Computing, almost 736 m long: a design by Vsevolod Voskresensky, construction began in 1972.
Start at Yuzhnaya metro, 10 minutes on foot. Walk along Varshavka to appreciate the length; you can't go inside

        • The enterprise was born in 1948 as SKB-245, where in 1953 the "Strela" — the first Soviet mass-produced computer — was created.
        • NICEVT later became the lead developer of the Unified Series computers (ES EVM) for the USSR and Comecon countries.
        • Vsevolod Voskresensky designed the building inspired by a business trip to New York.
        • A tower section over 300 m tall was also planned, but only the seven-story horizontal building was built.
        • The building is slightly curved: it was meant to wrap around a podium that was later abandoned.
        • If you walk or drive along the facade, its ribs seem to shimmer.

Lunch: meat pizza and a stracciatella salad; board games for kids
🍴 A family restaurant by Yuzhnaya metro with Roman pizza on fermented dough, a kids' menu and board games for children. In delivery apps and the company's legal name it appears as Easy Food. What to order: the signature meat pizza, tomato and stracciatella salad, the "4 Cheeses" burger.

🏛 Vyatichi burial mounds in Bitsevsky Forest
        Битцевский лес, западнее Чертановской ул.
A burial-mound cemetery of the 11th–13th centuries — low mounds under pines, traces of the Slavic Vyatichi.
Mounds in the forest at the eastern edge, look for "burial mound cemetery" on the map; comfortable shoes
        📖 More about the placeCollapse
        • Seven groups of Vyatichi burial mounds — cemeteries of small settlements — survive in Bitsevsky Forest.
        • Remains of two settlements of the 13th–15th centuries are also known in the center of the forest.
        • The same forest also preserves traces of the 1941 defense: trenches, anti-tank ditches and reinforced concrete caps of pillboxes.

        🏛 Experimental district Severnoye Chertanovo
        мкр. Северное Чертаново, Балаклавский пр.
A "district of the future" conceived in the 1970s: tall blocks on a shared podium, cars go into underground roads and garages, and the courtyards are left to pedestrians.
Walk under the houses along covered galleries and look into the ramp down to the underground roads

        • The district was built in 1975–1982 to a design by the engineer Lev Dyubek; the architects included Mikhail Posokhin.
        • Under each building an underground parking lot was built at one car per three apartments, and the entrance to it ran through a car wash.
        • The building sections are connected by warm first-floor halls — you can walk from one end of the district to the other almost without going outside.
        • A pneumatic waste disposal system was tried here — the only one in Soviet housing construction.
        • The numbering is continuous: "building 207" means house 2, entrance 7.
        • Contrary to the myth, this is not the Olympic Village: the project brief was drawn up in 1972, and Moscow only won the Olympics in 1975.
        • The writer Viktor Pelevin is among the district's residents.

между Чертановской ул. и Балаклавским пр.

A loop around the pond; from here it's five minutes to Chertanovskaya metro

        • The pond appeared in the 1980s, during the construction of Severnoye Chertanovo: the Vodyanka river was dammed for it.
        • The pond covers 4.35 hectares, is about 500 m long, about 150 m wide and 2 m deep.
        • It is the largest of the three Chertanovo ponds; they have no established names and are listed in documents as a complex.
        • The ponds are home to crucian carp, perch, pike, bream and carp.
