        🚶 Frunzenskaya Embankment
A long embankment with Stalinist buildings and a wide pavement along the Moskva River.
Start at Frunzenskaya metro towards sunset: go out to the river and follow the embankment to the pedestrian bridge — the sunset stays behind you, over the Sparrow Hills.

        • The embankment used to be called Khamovnicheskaya; it most likely received Frunze's name in 1936.
        • The roadway along the river appeared after the iron Krymsky Bridge was built in 1872, and until the 1930s the buildings were single-storey.
        • The banks were faced with granite in 1936–1937.
        • Building no. 22 is the General Staff of the Ground Forces, built in 1938–1951 with the participation of Lev Rudnev.
        • Lazar Kaganovich lived at no. 50, and the actors Georgy Burkov (no. 32) and Pyotr Glebov (nos. 38–44) lived in other buildings on the embankment.

        🌅 Andreevsky Bridge
A 1907 arched railway bridge moved here in 1999–2000, with a covered glass gallery above the Moskva River.
Cross the river through the covered gallery of the bridge — even in November there’s no draught under the roof. From the middle you see the river’s turn towards Luzhniki and the dark slopes of Neskuchny Garden; the bridge arches are lit in the evening.

        • Officially the bridge is called Pushkinsky, but most maps and reference books list it as Andreevsky.
        • The old bridge's main arch, weighing about 1,500 tonnes, was brought here on three barges on 22 May 1999; the towing took an hour and a half.
        • The original bridge was built in 1905–1907 for the Moscow Little Ring Railway to a design by the engineer L. D. Proskuryakov and the architect A. N. Pomerantsev.
        • At first the bridge was called Sergievsky, in memory of Grand Duke Sergei Alexandrovich, and in 1917 it was renamed after the neighbouring Andreevsky Monastery.
        • The span of the crescent-shaped arch is 135 m.

        • Until 1922 the embankment was called Aleksandrinskaya, and in 1922–1937 Neskuchnaya.
        • It got Pushkin's name in 1937, for the 100th anniversary of the poet's death: in summer 1830 he walked in Neskuchny Garden with his fiancée Natalya Goncharova.
        • The two-tier embankment with niches for benches and staircases was designed in 1937 by architect A. V. Vlasov.
        • Two white-stone gazebos by the water were built to a design by Matvey Kazakov at the turn of the 18th–19th centuries.
        • The embankment is pedestrian all along — no cars here.

        • On its very first day the park was visited by more than 100,000 people.
        • The main entrance arch was built in 1955 to a design by the architect Georgy Shchuko.
        • In the 1930s the park had an amusement parachute tower.
        • In spring 1943 captured German equipment was displayed here, including the first Tiger tank taken in working order.

        🌅 Krymsky Bridge
A 1938 steel suspension bridge with openwork pylons, linking Gorky Park and Ostozhenka.

        • The bridge was built in 1938 to a design by architect Alexander Vlasov and engineer Boris Konstantinov.
        • The name is linked to the Crimean Ford and the courtyard where envoys from the Crimean Khanate stayed in the 16th–17th centuries.
        • Its predecessor was an iron bridge of 1873 with truss walls and pseudo-Gothic turrets at the approaches.
        • In 1936 the old bridge was moved 50 m downstream, and trams ran over it while the new one was built alongside.
        • A tram ran across Krymsky Bridge until 1957.
