Lyublino: a pond, an estate and a family café

      ⏱ 2 h 30 min🚶 1.5 km🍽 1📍 4 stops
      🐢 A little — under 3 km

An unhurried loop along the embankment of Lyublino Pond: the Durasov estate rotunda, ducks, playgrounds on the shore and a family café overlooking the water.

👶 With kids🌳 Parks and nature🏘 Off the centre
      👶 under 3, 3–6 years · ✓ stroller-friendly

Lyublino and Volzhskaya stations have no lifts — better to take a taxi or bus to Shkulyov Street. The pond embankment is smooth, with ramps after landscaping; don't take a stroller into the palace.

        🌳 Lyublinsky Pond
        Летняя ул.
A large estate pond in front of the Durasov Palace — a round building with wings radiating in a cross.
The new embankment along the pond is smooth with no steps: handy for putting the baby to sleep in the stroller and doing a lap. The ducks stay by the boat station.

        • The pond covers 16.8 hectares, has an average depth of 2.5 m and a volume of 420,000 m³.
        • The embankment of Krasnodonskaya Street divides the pond into a large western and a small eastern part.
        • The pond is home to roach, bream, perch, carp, crucian carp, zander and small catfish.

🖼 Lyublino Estate Museum (Durasov Palace)
        Летняя ул., 1, стр. 1
🎟 partly ticketed · the grounds are free, the palace requires a ticket
An 1801 palace with an unusual plan — a circle from which four wings extend; inside are painted ceilings and 19th-century costumes.
View Durasov's cross-shaped palace from the outside, from the shore. The exhibition inside is on several floors — with a baby in a sling you can go in, but leave the stroller at the entrance and ask at the ticket office.

        • Before Peter the Great's time the village was called Godunovo — after its owner Grigory Petrovich Godunov.
        • The palace's owner Nikolay Durasov was famed for his hospitality: according to a contemporary, he kept sturgeon and huge pineapples at the ready.
        • The main house is a free variation on the Palladian Villa Rotonda; the author is thought to be I. V. Egotov, but there are no documents.
        • According to legend, Durasov repeated in the house's plan the order he had received — the Cross of St Anna.
        • The palace's ceilings and interiors were painted by Domenico Scotti.
        • In the summer of 1866 Dostoevsky lived in Lyublino: here he wrote the fifth chapter of "Crime and Punishment".
        • The old park was destroyed by a tornado in 1904.

        ✨ Playgrounds by Lyublino Pond
парк усадьбы Люблино, северный берег Люблинского пруда (у ул. Шкулёва)
A group of playgrounds by the big pond opposite the Durasov Palace in the Lyublino estate.
A group of playgrounds on the northern shore: choose the one with low slides and a sandbox. Almost empty on weekday mornings, schoolchildren after 17:00. The toilet is nearby, by the café (8:00 to 22:00).

        • The main house is a free variation on Palladio's Villa Rotonda; Ivan Egotov is considered the author, although no documents survive.
        • In the summer of 1866 Fyodor Dostoevsky lived in Lyublino, where he wrote the fifth chapter of “Crime and Punishment”.
        • From 1948 the estate belonged to the USSR Academy of Sciences' Institute of Oceanology, which restored the main house in 1952–1957.

About 500 m north of Lyublino Pond. An entertainer works in the kids' room at weekends. The café is small, about 60 seats.
🍴 A small family café north of Lyublino Pond. There is a kids' room, and on weekends an entertainer plays with the children. Try: the Ferrari pizza, and dishes from the kids' menu for children.
