Filyovsky Park: a playground, the river and shashlik

      ⏱ 3 h 30 min🚶 2 km🍽 1📍 4 stops
      🐢 A little — under 3 km

A shady park above the Moskva River for an unhurried day with a baby: a playground on the Main Alley, a nap in the stroller on the embankment and lunch on a veranda.

👶 With kids🌳 Parks and nature🏘 Off the centre
      👶 under 3, 3–6 years · ✓ stroller-friendly

Filyovsky Park and Bagrationovskaya have no lifts — come by taxi to the entrance from Bolshaya Filyovskaya. Go down to the embankment by the asphalt serpentine, not the stairs.

        🌳 Filyovsky Park
🚪 entrance from Bolshaya Filyovskaya Street
A large park on the high bank of the Moskva River: the former Naryshkin estate with alleys, woods and paths down to the water.
A taxi is easier here. The main entrance is from Bolshaya Filyovskaya: toilets and signs right at the gates. On weekday mornings it's mostly mums with strollers.

        • In 1689 Peter I gave Fili to his uncle Lev Naryshkin, and the land stayed in the Naryshkin family for about 175 years.
        • Before that Fili was a royal hunting ground, where Alexei Mikhailovich hunted.
        • The last owner of the estate was the manufacturer and publisher Kozma Soldatyonkov, who bought it in 1869.
        • The park contains the Kuntsevo hillfort, one of the oldest fortified settlements in Moscow: the Vyatichi lived here in the 11th–13th centuries, and the rampart and ditch survive.
        • The park stretches 5 km along the Moskva River and covers 280 hectares.
        • As late as the 1970s elk were seen in the park, and Muscovites came here to pick mushrooms.

✨ Playground on the Main Alley of Fili Park
        Филёвский парк, Главная аллея
A playground by the Main Alley with play structures for toddlers and older kids.
A playground on the Main Alley with a soft surface, swings and a sandbox; benches in the shade nearby. At weekends come before noon.

        • In 1689 Peter I gave Fili to his uncle Lev Naryshkin; before that these were Tsar Alexey Mikhailovich's royal hunting grounds.
        • Fili Park became a park of culture and leisure in 1947.
        • Until the 1970s the park stayed almost wild: elk were seen here and Muscovites came to pick mushrooms.
        • The park's children's and sports playgrounds were built during the large-scale improvement of 2011–2014; one of them is for children with disabilities.
        • In 1997, for Moscow's 850th anniversary, a wooden “City of Craftsmen” styled after towns of the 10th–12th centuries was built on the site of the Kuntsevo hillfort.

        🚶 Filyovsky Park Embankment
A walking path right along the water at the foot of the park's wooded slopes, with benches and rest spots.
Nap time: a smooth embankment along the river, where the breeze and the sound of water put a baby to sleep quickly. It's cool here in October — bring a blanket and a rain cover for the stroller.

        • A beach area on the embankment opened in 2012, and a year later pontoon pools with purified river water were added.
        • The embankment was renovated during the park's improvement in 2011–2014.

Lunch on a veranda by its own playground: shashlik takes about half an hour, so order at once, and ask for a side dish and soup for the baby. There are high chairs, but in cold weather sit inside.
🍴 A restaurant right in Filyovsky Park: terrace, gazebos and a playground. What to order: shashlik (takes about half an hour), salads, a burger, homemade lemonades.
