🌳 Big Vorontsovo Pond and Duck Island

The biggest of Vorontsovo's estate ponds, surrounded by old trees.

The terraced ponds were made under Prince Pyotr Repnin, who from 1744 built his "Versailles near Moscow" here.
The cascade of five ponds in the Chura river floodplain is declared a natural monument; the Ramenka and Kotlovka rivers begin here.
In the summer of 1812 the German Franz Leppich's dirigible balloon, for fighting Napoleon, was secretly built at the estate.
Residents of the park include mallards, mandarin ducks, gulls and terns.
The ponds were reconstructed during the estate's restoration, completed in July 2007.
