      • According to legend, on seeing the icon of St Nicholas the Wonderworker here, Dmitry Donskoy said: “This whole ugresha (dear place) is my heart”, hence the name Ugresha.
      • In 1521 the monastery was burned to the ground during the Crimean Khan Mehmed I Giray's raid on Moscow.
      • On 11 July 1668, during Tsar Alexey Mikhailovich's “Ugresha pilgrimage”, three patriarchs were here at once: of Alexandria, Antioch and Moscow.
      • After the suppression of the Streltsy revolt, the monastery became one of the places of imprisonment for the rebel streltsy.
      • In 1874–1875 the philosopher Konstantin Leontiev was a novice at the monastery.
      • In the war the pond was covered with boards and logs with dummy buildings, and the domes were removed to mislead German pilots.
      • The first liturgy here since the 1920s was served on 19 December 1990, and in 1991 the monastery was returned to the Church.
