      • The monastery dates back to 1337, when Sergius of Radonezh and his brother Stephen settled on Makovets hill.
      • During the Time of Troubles the monastery withstood a 16-month siege by the troops of Sapieha and Lisowski (1608–1610).
      • Andrei Rublev painted the icon "Trinity" for the Trinity Cathedral, founded in 1422.
      • The five-tier bell tower was built from 1741 to 1770, partly to a design by Dmitry Ukhtomsky.
      • In 2004 a newly cast Tsar Bell was raised onto the bell tower.
      • The Lavra was closed in 1920 and reopened in 1946; until 1983 it was the residence of the patriarchs.
      • Since 1993 the Lavra ensemble has been on the UNESCO World Heritage list.
