      🏛 Sokolniki Fire Tower

      Русаковская ул., 26

One of the few pre-revolutionary fire towers left in Moscow — a brick tower of the 1880s by Sokolniki metro.

      • The tower was built in 1881-1884 to a design by M. K. Geppener, who won the competition.
      • Residents spent 18 years collecting the money for it — 20,000 roubles.
      • It was the second-tallest lookout tower in Moscow after the Sukharev Tower.
      • By day a fire was signalled with balls on a mast, by night with lanterns; the station kept 30 horses.
