🌳 Setun River Valley nature reserve

A long nature reserve in the river valley: meadows, ravines, springs and patches of old forest.

The 696.2-hectare reserve was created on 21 July 1998.
The Setun is the largest right tributary of the Moskva River: of its 38 km length, 17 fall within the reserve.
The reserve includes two large forests — Matveyevsky (about 100 hectares) and Troyekurovsky (about 20 hectares).
69 bird species nest in the valley, and of 384 plant species 47 are rare for Moscow.
The Church of the Saviour Not Made by Hands on the Setun was built in 1673–1676 on the orders of the boyar Artamon Matveyev.
The last time a grey-headed woodpecker was seen in Matveyevsky Forest was in 1975.
