🏛 Church of the Archangel Michael in Ovchinniki

      Средний Овчинниковский пер., 7

A 17th-century church in the former Ovchinnaya Sloboda, where sheepskins were dressed — among quiet lanes between Pyatnitskaya and Sadovnicheskaya.

      • The church was built in the first half of the 17th century in the Ovchinnaya Sloboda; at first the main altar was dedicated to the Intercession.
      • Originally it was a small quadrangle with three domes above a pyramid of kokoshniks.
      • In the second half of the 17th century the refectory was enlarged and the side chapel of the Archangel Michael, which gave the church its name, was added on the south.
      • The church is a federal architectural monument.
