      🏛 Mandelstam Monument

Старосадский пер., сквер у дома 10

The poet's head thrown back, on a "ruined" column of basalt cubes, in a tiny square between Starosadsky Lane and Zabelin Street.

      • The monument was unveiled on 28 November 2008; the head was sculpted by Elena Munts, the column made by Dmitry Shakhovskoy, and the architect was Alexander Brodsky.
      • The poet's head sits on a "ruined herm" made of four basalt cubes.
      • Lines are carved into the cubes: "For the thundering valour of ages to come, for the lofty tribe of men..."
      • The square is tiny — about 5 by 8 metres.
