🖼 Lianozov Mansion (K. Vasiliev Museum of Slavic Culture)

      Череповецкая ул., 3Б

An 1903 mansion of the Lianozov oil-industrialist family — almost all that is left of the dacha village; inside are paintings by Konstantin Vasiliev.

      • The mansion was built by the industrialist Stepan Lianozov in 1903; according to legend, the house was meant for his beloved.
      • An English-style park was laid out around the house, with statues in imitation of ancient Greek sculpture.
      • In 1986 there were plans to open a restaurant in the mansion, but the idea was dropped because of Gorbachev's anti-alcohol campaign.
      • By 1990 the house was in disrepair and was about to be demolished; admirers of Vasiliev saved and repaired the mansion with private donations.
      • The museum opened in 1998 on the initiative of the Konstantin Vasiliev Painting Lovers' Club.
      • In 2009 the mansion was set on fire during a dispute over the paintings: the third floor and part of the roof burned; the exhibition reopened in 2012.
      • It is the only surviving dacha of the Lianozovo village: private houses were demolished in the 1970s to make way for high-rise districts.
