      • The House of Culture by which the square is laid out is named after Mikhail Kalinin, in whose honour the city was called Kaliningrad from 1938 to 1996.
      • On 8 July 1996 the city was renamed Korolev in honour of Sergey Korolev, who led OKB-1 here.
      • Since 12 April 2001, Cosmonautics Day, Korolev has had the status of a science city.
