      • The gate is named after the wooden Church of St Paraskeva Pyatnitsa, patroness of trade, which stood nearby in the posad.
      • Of the kremlin's four gate towers, only this one survives.
      • According to the inventory of 1578–1579, the tower held 90 arquebuses, 5,500 iron cannonballs and 7 barrels of gunpowder.
      • The lower tier with its separate shooting turret recalls the Spasskaya Tower of the Moscow Kremlin.
      • The tower's base is 14 by 22 meters; slots for the portcullis (herse) survive in the arch.
      • The Pyatnitskaya chapel of brick and white stone was added to the tower in the 1820s.
      • Legend says Marina Mniszech and the ataman Zarutsky buried a treasure under the leaf of the Pyatnitsky Gate.
