      🖼 Kolomenskoye Peasant's Homestead

просп. Андропова, 39, стр. 72 (Большая улица)

A recreated yard of a well-off peasant of the late 19th century: a house with a brick undercroft and a village shop, a vegetable plot and orchard, a stable with a horse named Apelsin (Orange), a poultry house with hens and a barn.

      • The wooden peasant houses of Bolshaya Street have not survived — the homestead was recreated to show how the old village lived.
      • The house has two storeys: the brick undercroft was used for storage, and a formal "red porch" leads up to the living quarters.
      • The undercroft holds a village shop that "sells" Indian tea, coffee, fabrics and footwear.
      • The main room is furnished almost like a late-19th-century city flat: a gramophone, a Singer sewing machine, a pendulum clock.
      • The kitchen was called the "babiy kut" (women's corner), and the stove is faced with Dutch-style tiles.
      • Kolomenskoye peasants grew so many cucumbers and cabbages that they were nicknamed "kocherzhniki" (cabbage-stalk folk) and "cabbage kings".
