      A white neoclassical building with a colonnade on Kremlyovskaya Street; in front stands a monument to the young Lenin, who studied here.

      • The university was founded on 5 (17) November 1804 by a charter of Alexander I.
      • The main building with its colonnade was built by the architect Pyotr Pyatnitsky in 1822–1825.
      • The mathematician Nikolai Lobachevsky joined the building committee in 1822.
      • The Anatomical Theatre of 1836 was placed exactly on the axis of the main building.
      • In 1838 Mikhail Korinfsky built an astronomical observatory at the university.
      • In 1887 Vladimir Ulyanov entered the law faculty, but in December he was expelled for taking part in a student gathering.
