      The republic's main art museum in General Sandetsky's mansion: painting and graphic art, plus an exhibition centre of the Russian Museum.

      • The museum was created in 1958 on the basis of the picture gallery of the State Museum of the Tatar ASSR.
      • Since 1967 it has occupied an early-20th-century mansion, the former residence of General Sandetsky, commander of the Kazan Military District.
      • The museum has three sites: the main building, Khazine in the Kremlin (since 2005) and the Contemporary Art Gallery (since 2009).
      • In 2016 Russia's first Russian Museum cultural and exhibition centre opened here.
