        • Laishev was built in 1557 on the site of the Bulgar settlement of Laish, soon after the capture of Kazan.
        • The town stands on the high right bank of the Kama, that is, the Kuibyshev Reservoir.
        • Laishevo is called the centre of the Derzhavin region: the poet was born in the village of Sokury a little to the north.
        • The square has borne Derzhavin's name since 2003, and a monument to the poet stands on it.
        • In 1990 Laishevo was added to the list of Russia's historic towns.
        • Since 2000 a costumed Derzhavin festival has been held here every year.
