With kids: dinosaurs in the Kremlin and the embankment

      ⏱ 4 h 30 min🚶 3 km🍽 1📍 6 stops
      🐢 A little — under 3 km

The Kremlin through a child's eyes: an embankment to run around on, meteorites and ancient reptiles in the museum, the mosque balconies, the flying-saucer circus and lunch at a teahouse with a kids' room.

👶 With kids🏛 History and architecture
      👶 3–6, 7–12 years · ✓ stroller-friendly

From the embankment to Tainitskaya Tower it is a climb uphill; with a stroller it is easier to go around and enter through Spasskaya Tower. In the Kremlin the ground is paving tiles and in places cobblestones.

        • The pedestrian embankment stretches about a kilometre and a half, from the Kremlin walls to the National Library.
        • Along it there are cafés, fountains, sculptures and a pier.
        • Little tourist road trains in the shape of steam engines run along the promenade.
        • In winter a skating rink almost a kilometre long is flooded here, one of the longest in Russia.

        • The museum occupies a former 19th-century cadet school: 12 halls on two floors.
        • It has a collection of meteorites, an interactive telescope and "space scales".
        • The second floor is devoted to palaeontology: the first fish, marine reptiles, dinosaurs, a mammoth and a woolly rhinoceros.
        • Oil is explained with a working model of a mud volcano and an interactive well.
        • For children there are play areas such as a "track trail" of ancient animals.

        • Each of the four main minarets is 58 metres tall.
        • It was built mostly with donations: the names of more than 40,000 donors are written in books in the main hall.
        • The carpets were a gift from the Iranian government, and the chandelier, weighing almost two tonnes, was made in the Czech Republic.

        • The tower is 47 metres tall.
        • The through passage was only cut in the late 1920s; before that, people entered by a side gate.
        • Since 1 September 2023 the tower has housed a museum of the Kremlin's fortifications.

        • In 1971 the designers received a USSR Council of Ministers prize.
