      Memorials to two famous visitors to Insterburg — Peter the Great and Napoleon — a few steps apart.

      • On 14 May 1697 Peter the Great passed through Insterburg — a stone marks the occasion.
      • Napoleon visited Insterburg in June 1812; a memorial plaque hangs on the house where he stayed.
      • As a young man Immanuel Kant came to Insterburg more than once — he worked as a tutor in the nearby village of Judtschen.
