        • Abrau-Dyurso, an appanage estate of the imperial family, was founded in 1870.
        • The first grape harvest here was gathered in 1877.
        • From 1891 winemaking on the estate was run by Prince Lev Golitsyn, who began making sparkling wine here by the traditional method.
        • In 1894–1900 the winery building and five tunnel cellars in the mountain were built.
        • In 1928 Anton Frolov-Bagreyev released the first batch of Soviet champagne here, 36,000 bottles.

        • Abrau is the largest freshwater lake in Krasnodar Krai.
        • The lake is more than 3 km long, up to 630 m wide and about 10.5 m deep.
        • The lake lies at 84 m above sea level and is separated from the Black Sea by an isthmus less than 2 km wide.
        • A century and a half ago the depth by the landslide dam reached 30 m: the banks were washed away after the vineyards were planted.
